Stuart Ralphson
BA(hons) Game Design
For nearly 3 years I’ve been working as a Technical Designer for the excellent and award winning Flix Interactive. Being a co-development studio I’ve been given many great opportunities to work on AAA projects with many very talented people from other studios in a range of roles.
In my spare time whilst working a full time retail job I taught myself programming in C# initially in the XNA Game Studio framework but migrated into Unity around 8 years ago and 4 years ago expanded my knowledge into Unreal working with the team at Freesphere as technical lead/producer on ‘Necropolis Suite’ and advancing my coding knowledge into C++.
Over the course of this journey I’ve released a mobile phone game on the Google Play Store (“A Game of Ur”), completed 3 GMTK Game Jams (2 solo and in a team last year) all rating in the top 40% each time, and created a top down shooter for my eldest son one birthday featuring his own art and sound effects in one night.
My educational background is a BA(hons) Game Design degree (2:1) which I graduated in 2007 continuing to explore game mechanics through creating prototypes and consuming various media (GDC Vault, Podcasts, Text books) exploring existing mechanics and deep diving into new systems.
My interest in creating games stems from my high school days creating maps in the original Half Life engine and attempting to get several mods off the ground through the Planet Half Life community with little success, I continue chasing the idea through RPG Maker in college inspired by a friend creating one based on our social group.
